Sweat it Out with Stefanie – A Full Body Workout

Since I plan on transitioning sweat it out Saturdays to a new day soon, I’m renaming the series SWEAT IT OUT with STEFANIE. We all love to sweat it out no matter what day it is. Am I right or am I right?

Everything will pretty much stay the same – we’ll track our weekly workouts, talk about new classes or gear and share motivational pictures, songs, and quotes! I’ll also share new workouts, challenges, and ways to sweat it out! Because that’s the ultimate goal, right?

All of this:

I show you my dedication by posting my weekly workouts.

I try to spread motivation by sharing motivational quotes, upbeat songs, fun new work out gear, and much much more.

Finally, I invite YOU to participate by linking to a post you’ve written about anything sweat-related during the week. Through your post, you can show us all your dedication and also help spread the motivation!

The RULE?

Everything has to make you sweat, motivate you to sweat, or accompany you in your sweatiness.

is still included!

Let’s go!

Weekly Workouts

Sunday – REST

Monday – no thinking required full body workout (see below)

Tuesday – kickboxing!

Wednesday – 4-mile run/walk

Thursday – REST (AKA laziest day ever)

Friday – hot yoga

Today – hot boot camp (this morning)

Motivation from one of my FAVORITE health and fitness influencers!

Only YOU can make a change. Only YOU can motivate yourself. Only YOU can make your health a priority.

Get your sweat on with the no thinking required full body workout!

I love this workout because it’s a no brainer! No complicated moves—just good old-fashioned exercises using your bodyweight alone.

It doesn’t have to be complicated to yield results!

See this post for burpee modifications!

Sweat it Out Saturday – HOT Yoga

Lately, I have been thinking about changing the sweat it out posts to a new day. Possibly Monday? That way, I {we} can recap the prior week’s workouts, classes, gear, and more.

It just seems as if Saturday is more of an unplugging day—especially during the summer months. What do you guys think? Would you be more likely to link up on a Monday? That way we can not only recap anything fitness-related from the previous week, but we can also get motivated for the week ahead. Let me know what you think!

And with that, let’s continue on with SIOS!

If you’re new—here’s the deal:

I show you my dedication by posting my weekly workouts.

I try to spread motivation by sharing motivational quotes, upbeat songs, fun new work out gear, and much much more.

Finally, I invite YOU to participate by linking to a post you’ve written about anything sweat-related during the week. Through your post, you can show us all your dedication and also help spread the motivation!

The RULE?

Everything has to make you sweat, motivate you to sweat, or accompany you in your sweatiness.

Weekly Workouts

Sunday – REST

Monday – jog 2 miles + p90x core synergistic

Tuesday – 2 mile walk

Wednesday – my first hot yoga class {see my thoughts below}

Thursday – 2 mile bike ride + 2 mile walk

Friday – REST

Today – not sure yet, but hopefully something sweaty and fun!

New Gear <3 – my first Nike Frees!

I am so in love with these! They’re extremely comfortable and I can’t wait to run in them. I am normally a pink girl – but the purple caught my eye and they are adorable.

New Class – HOT Yoga!

A few weeks ago, my friend and I bought a Groupon for 15 hot yoga classes. I have been wanting to try a class for as long as I can remember, but could never find a studio in my area. Well, this Groupon changed all that!

So prior to our first class (on Wednesday), I was kind of nervous. All day, I chugged water (to avoid dehydration) and battled visions of passing out on my mat. Yes, I am a drama queen sometimes. It’s fine.

So did I pass out on my mat? No! But I’m pretty sure I had an out-of-body experience. Okay, not really – but this class was absolutely amazing. I know I generally give rave reviews about anything fitness-related (what can I say? I love to sweat!), but this was different.

Let’s go to the beginning. As my friend and I sat on our mats discussing the heat and humidity in the room, the instructor said “okay, ready for me to turn the heat on?” Uh, what? We thought the heat was already ON! We thought wrong. At that point, we also realized that we had parked ourselves right in front of one of the many heaters. Go us.

Turns out, I {we} LOVE the heat. Five minutes into the 90-minute class, I began to sweat. And sweat. And sweat some more. Halfway through, my clothes were soaked and by the end, I looked as if I had jumped into a pool (of my own sweat).

During the class, I completely zoned out and focused on the moves, the stretches, and the practice. Sure, I was drenched in sweat – but it wasn’t uncomfortable. In fact, it was fantastic.

Afterward, we both felt super calm, yet energized at the same time. I can’t explain it, but I just felt like everything was right in the world.

Needless to say, I can’t wait for my next class!

Have you tried hot yoga? If not (and you get the chance), take it! It was worth every sweaty second (and every last penny).

Video of the week – #FitFluential Go Dirty Girl Mud Run 2012

Sweat it Out Saturday – Just Walks

It’s a holiday weekend! You know what that means—more time to sweat it out! Or more time to relax and chill with your family and friends. Whatever floats your boat.

Do you have any sweat sessions planned for your 3-day weekend? I don’t. We’re talking about possibly going for a hike and a long bike ride—but other than that, it’s a blank slate for the weekend. Love it.

Actually, I rarely plan out my workouts. I’m more of a do what you want day-by-day type girl. In the past, I have found that when I plan workouts—they’re less likely to happen. That’s just me though. I know a lot of people thrive on a pre-set schedule. With all other areas of life (school, work, family)—bring on the agenda! But with workouts? I’ll fly by the seat of my pants.

That’s my philosophy. What’s yours?

And with that—let’s talk about SWEAT.

For any newcomers, here’s a little breakdown of what sweat it out Saturday is all about.

I show you my dedication by posting my weekly workouts.

I spread motivation by sharing motivational quotes, upbeat songs, fun new work out gear, and much much more.

Finally, I invite YOU to participate by linking to a post you’ve written about anything sweat-related during the week. Through your post, YOU can show us all your dedication and also help spread the motivation!

There is only one rule:

Everything has to make you sweat, motivate you to sweat, or accompany you in your sweatiness.

Weekly Workouts

There wasn’t much sweat going on in New Healthy land this past week. I wasn’t feeling any intense workouts—so I just went on several walks instead. I probably went on 3 (2 to 3 mile) walks over the week.

It was just one of those weeks, I suppose. You know, one of those weeks where you’re just lacking energy and you’d rather hang out with a good book then get your sweat on? Rather than force myself to workout (hello, burn out), I fully embraced a week of {somewhat active} rest and I know I’ll be full of energy next week!

Rest days (err, weeks) are just as important as workouts. They’re necessary for repair and rejuvenation. Exercise is amazing but it’s also a physical stressor. Our bodies deserve a nice break every now and then.

Do you ever take rest weeks?

Sometimes I’m afraid that if I take too many rest days, then I’ll have a hard time getting back into my routine. While this seems plausible, it’s usually the opposite.

After a good period of rest, I crave an amazing sweat. It may take a little extra boost to get out there and do it—but after a few minutes, I probably have a cheesy smile on my face. Consequently, some of my best workouts come after a little R&R.

Sweat It Out Saturday – New Class

Hey guys! We’re sweating a little late today because I’ve been in Chicago all morning. I will be doing a presentation at a conference this Thursday so excuse me if I’m a little MIA this week.

I’ll be practicing, rehearsing, and practicing some more.

Okay, let’s get to it!

Everything has to make you sweat, motivate you to sweat, or accompany you in your sweatiness.

Weekly Workouts

Sunday – 3 mile run

Monday – 1 mile warm-up + arms/shoulders/abs

Tuesday – back-to-back classes (Zumba + Turbokick)

Wednesday – REST

Thursday – 3 mile run

Friday – REST (total lazy day)

Saturday – Turbofire later!

New Class <3

On Tuesday I tried out a new-to-me class called Turbokick. I’ve been wanting to try it for quite some time but it’s never worked with my schedule. Well, Tuesday was the night.

So how was the class? In a word: AH-mazing. I was a sweaty, tingly mess afterward. The moves were very similar to Turbofire, so I was able to keep up without a problem.

Basically, it’s a bunch of punching, kicking, and twisting with FIRE intervals interspersed throughout the workout. For the FIRE intervals, you go as hard as possible for a few minutes and then you get a short break afterward.

It was fun and challenging workout. So of course, I can’t wait to go again!

Tune of the Week [Dev & Enrique Iglesias – Naked]

Get your sweat on with the awesome arms and abs workout.

This is the perfect short and easy workout to do while watching your favorite shows.

All you need is a pair of dumbbells and some energy. Quick, dirty, and easy to do in the comfort of your own home.

I usually do this after a cardio session to get some strength in.

Get your sweat on with 45 seconds of bliss!

This is the work out we did in boot camp on Monday morning! It was a great one!

Do each exercise for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds, and go on to the next move! Repeat the 5 moves 4 times for a total of 20 minutes!

Descriptions

1. egg rolls – I couldn’t find a picture, but I’ll do my best to explain. Lay flat on your back, legs extended straight up in the air. Lift your butt and move to the right side by using your obliques only (do this 5 times), then go back the other way using the other side of your body.

2. squat with push up – start in a squat position, move forward into a push-up, then push yourself back into the squat

(source)

3. plank and extend – extend right arm and left leg, hold for 3 seconds, then switch

(source)

4. reverse crunches –bring your booty off the ground by crunching your lower abs

(source)

5. 100s – keep your legs extended and pump your arms up and quickly and steadily for 100 reps (or however many you can do in 45 seconds)

Couch Potato No More {workout}

Sometimes couches get a bad rep.

In their defense, they are comfortable. They’re certainly the best place to chill out and watch television or read a great book. And they’re always a great place to curl up for an afternoon nap.

On the flip side, couches are associated with the term couch potato.

Couch potato has a negative connotation, wouldn’t you say?

No one wants to be considered a couch potato.

So I think we should give our big comfy couches another chance. Lately, rather than plopping down on the couch to watch my favorite television shows, I have been utilizing my couch as a fitness tool (while also watching my favorite shows).

Multitasking is the name of my game. I love to walk on the treadmill while reading, studying, or catching up on shows. I frequently do mini strength workouts while watching a family movie. And as you may know, I also find sneaky ways to get extra movement in during the day.

The couch has proven to be an ally in my multitasking ways. Wanting to be fit does not necessarily mean leaving the couch behind. It just means that you have to think outside of the box (or outside of the gym, if you will).

So, I’m giving the couch another chance by sharing my couch potato no more workout!

Most people have a couch (or a recliner/loveseat) – so this is a no excuses workout folks.

The couch has graduated – wouldn’t you say? It’s no longer a FITNESS FOE, rather it is now a FITNESS FRIEND!

Now, after you’ve completed the no more couch potato workout – grab a snack and finish your show. You’re vegging out on the couch, but you’re certainly not what I’d call a couch potato.

Sweat It Out Saturday – Add Some Extra Weight

Today the theme is all about adding a little extra weight to your workouts. Whether you’re walking, running, kickboxing, or dancing – a little extra weight never hurts.

Everything has to make you sweat, motivate you to sweat, or accompany you in your sweatiness.

My Extra Weight Inspiration

These gloves are only 1/2 lb. each, but believe me when I say that they can seriously up the sweat factor.

So far, I’ve worn these walking, running, zumbaing (made up word alert), and piloxing. Basically, I plan on using them whenever my workout permits!

As far as where to get them, I actually bought mine at my Piloxing class. You can get the exact gloves here, but any type of weighted gloves would work.

Weekly Workouts

Sunday – 3 mile run

Monday – REST

Tuesday – 5 mile walk/run (2 miles with the weighted gloves)

Wednesday – REST

Thursday – Piloxing class (50 minutes) + boot camp class (45 minutes)

Friday – 3 mile treadmill run (1 mile with weighted gloves)

Saturday – an outdoor run (weather-permitting) or a Turbokick class

Words Of Wisdom

Before beginning my weight loss journey, I spent way too much time wishing that I could lose weight, feel better, and look better. I also spent a lot of time thinking about working out or eating healthier. But wishing and thinking didn’t get me anywhere – it is action that creates change.

Just think if I had spent all of that time actually working towards my goal.

Thankfully, I eventually realized this and learned from my mistakes.

But it’s an amazing lesson for all walks of life – STOP WISHING. START DOING.

Get your sweat on by grabbing extra weights!

Whatever workout you do today (or over the next week), grab some extra weights. You can use weighted gloves, small dumbbells (1-2 lbs.) or cans of food – whatever you have access to.

Try doing a few sets of jumping jacks or some incline walking – your arms will be burning in no time.

Sweat It Out Saturday – Thoughts On Lack Of Exercise

Hey guys! Long time no talk, eh? As I mentioned previously, I have been at the University of Chicago Hospital all week long.

Thank you to those of who sent well wishes my brother’s way – he came through surgery well and he’s finally back at home. Home sweet home has a whole new meaning this weekend.

So although I didn’t work out this week (besides for a whole lot of walking around) – I’m still going to do a Sweat it Out Saturday post!

Weekly Workouts

Monday – Zumba

Tuesday-Friday – hospital (no workouts, but I did make certain to take the stairs when possible)

Saturday – TBD, but I’m thinking something sweaty and intense is on the menu.

Sunday – I haves plans to take a Zumba class!

Motivation

This is applicable to life in general.

Song of the week – Proud by Heather Small

Yes, I posted this song the other day. But it’s too good to pass up.

Thoughts

After a week without sweat, I think I’ll come back into my workout routine strong and refreshed. But for now, I’ll just roll with the punches.

When you’re used to a routine, a lack of exercise can often be stressful. For me, this is especially true since workouts are often a way to de-stress and stay sane when life hands me lemons. Or when life is going perfectly smooth. Either way.

However, I have to say that I didn’t feel upset by my lack of exercise this week. I thought I might, but honestly – I didn’t think about it at all. Family is always first for me and this week that was even more apparent. Don’t get me wrong, a good workout would have felt fantastic, but being by my brother’s side every single day was my top priority.

Exercise, on the other hand, was pretty much on the bottom of the list. And I was (and am) okay with that. It will always be there when I’m ready to get back to it.

As you may have guessed, I don’t have a sweaty workout of the week for you this time around.

So here’s where you come in!

Tune of the Week – Bangarang by Skrillex (feat. Sirah)

Get your sweat on with the stairs of death!

Have you ever seen this machine at your gym?

I like to call this the stairs of death. Okay, so it’s actually called the stepmill—but the stairs of death is a much more appropriate name.

Why? It certainly looks innocent enough—but looks can be deceiving. You can do a mere 10 minutes on this machine and your buns will be a-burning. Hop on there for 20 minutes and you’ll be dripping sweat (and most likely cursing). Your thighs, butt, and metabolism will thank you later. Believe me.

For this workout, all you need is a stepmill machine.

If you don’t have access to a stepmill, then find the nearest set of stairs and get to climbing!
