Motivation From Unexpected People [And Places]

Sometimes inspiration comes from the places you would least suspect.

I experienced this on yesterday’s run, during which I got a little boost of motivation from an unexpected source.

There is a sweet elderly couple that lives in my cul-de-sac. Each day—without fail—they take a long walk through our neighborhood. However, with yesterday’s icy weather, I just assumed they would stay indoors.

Oh no, they were out and about. Trucking along, much as I was, in the 16 degree weather. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect—I saw them just as I was scaling my last big hill. Of course, by this point I was questioning cold-weather running altogether.

Seeing them gave me a huge boost of motivation and put a smile on my otherwise numb face. I couldn’t resist and I yelled out “you guys are such troopers!”

Their response came in the form of contagious smiles. Contrary to my usual avoidance of all things contagious, this was a contagion I fully welcomed.

Case in point: cold-weather running inspiration from simply seeing an elderly couple? Who would have thought!

I ended my run feeling refreshed and amazing! Thank you, beautiful couple, for making my Thursday.

Anyway, let’s take a look at Thursday’s eats.

Pre-run breakfast.

Toasted bagel thin topped with almond butter, sliced bananas, and a hefty sprinkle of cinnamon.

Post-run fuel.

  • Multigrain cheerios
  • Kashi GoLean
  • almond milk
  • mini chocolate chips (all sunk to the bottom)

Try this: mix some peanut flour with your almond milk! Peanut almond milk! Yum!

Super iced coffee.

  • Cold coffee
  • maca powder
  • vanilla protein powder
  • almond milk
  • Amazing Grass Chocolate superfood.

All blended up and served over ice.

Lunch. Chunky Chickpea Salad.

  • TJ’s roasted sweet corn (frozen and microwaved)
  • green beans
  • romaine
  • chunky chickpeas
  • dried cranberries
  • hummus/salsa dressing

Last, but certainly not least. Kashi Roasted Vegetable Pizza. This is by far my favorite frozen pizza!

I added more peppers and goat cheese for extra flavor!

All that yummy food plus a vanilla frozen yogurt from Costco equals a good day in my book!

My first race is this Sunday! I’m crossing my fingers for decent weather!
Have a great Friday guys!
