I have always been one of the world’s worst packers. I set out to pack ‘only what I need’ and then I always end up over packing.
I set out with an overstuffed suitcase and then I return home with half of my clothes unworn – but the fact that they are there [just in case] is comforting, you know?
Once upon a time, Sam asked me to pack for him. I obliged.
Apparently, I only over pack for myself and I actually under pack for others. I forgot to pack him any socks at all.
Yeah, let's just say he now packs for himself. I wish I could say I did that on purpose since he should be packing his own suitcase anyway. But nope, completely slipped my mind.
In my mind, the key to successful packing is a well-thought out list.
I always start by planning actual outfits. On one of my first trips, I made the mistake of packing random clothing items that didn’t really go together. I don’t know what I was thinking—but I’ll just call it a learning experience.
I try to pick versatile pieces that are easy for layering and incorporating into different outfits. Think solids, neutrals, and light jackets.
I’m also huge on accessories to kick an outfit up a notch. Plus, I can wear the same outfit with a different scarf and no one will know, right? 
Scarfs and jewelry really can change an outfit.
Finally, I pack my toiletries as I go through my morning/night routine. That way, I won’t forget any key pieces.
Oh and I can’t forget snacks/reading material for the plane!
Sounds pretty simple, no?
Of course, it’s not that simple – but I think I’m getting this whole packing thing down!
Sam and I even shared a suitcase, which is unheard of for me!
I think someone wants to come along!
Aw, I’m going to miss my boys so much! Thank goodness for Skype!
