You knew that this was coming. Not only because I told you—but also because what’s a new year without some goal-setting? Probably still the same thing: a new year. Humor me.
After taking a look back at 2010, I formulated a list of what’s to come in 2011. Not necessarily New Year’s resolutions (since I never seem to follow those)—but just goals in general. Or accomplishments, that’s a better fit.
What I hope to will accomplish in 2011. Categorized—because that’s how I roll.
School
- take the GRE
- complete grad school applications (letters of recommendation, personal statements, GRE scores)
- finish my last semester with a 4.0
- squeeze every last drop of knowledge out of my internship supervisor and my favorite professors
Parenting
- spend at least 1 night a week doing something Adam chooses (board games, video games, movies…etc.)—his choice, his night
- continue working on Adam’s basketball/soccer skills
- encourage Adam to continue his love for reading (he’s on the 4th Harry Potter book!)
- As always, be patient, loving, and understanding. <—a constant goal
- just make his childhood the best it can be! (like mine was!)
Personal
- work on communication between Sam & I--We are both so busy we sometimes forget to catch up on each others lives!
- continue spending quality time with my parents & siblings <—possibly initiate game nights once per week or twice per month (dang, I’m getting old)
- build on my friendships and keep them strong
Fitness/Eating
- run a race or races(5k, half marathon)—most importantly, do NOT miss the race!
- learn to run smarter
- incorporate more strength training <—another constant goal (get strong!)
- continue eating healthy and trying new foods
- try to incorporate more yoga/stretching into my current routine
Personal joy about this section: this is the first year (that I can remember) that I haven’t included a “lose X pounds” bullet. Happy dance. Who needs weight resolutions, I’m all about a healthy lifestyle. Resolutions mean short-term, lifestyle means—well, for life.
Blogging
- increase blog traffic <—tips would be appreciated!
- bring new and interesting content to my readers
- attend a blog meet-up <—I want to meet you lovelies in person!
- make a possible switch to self-hosting <—I’m overwhelmed at this thought, but I still want to do it!
- reader’s requests <—what do YOU want to see more/less of?
Reader’s requests are especially important to me because a blog is little more than a personal diary without amazing readers to back you up. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. So if there’s anything at all you want see—let me know.
Most, if not all, of my hopes for 2011 fall under the attainable/realistic category. Yet, it’s easy to get bogged down if you don’t get your thoughts organized. Organization achieved.
Of course, my inspiration board should also help with that!
The idea behind an inspiration board is that it provides a constant reminder and source of motivation for your goals. When you don’t feel like going on that run or hitting up the gym—look at your board.
This was my first time making an inspiration board—and I had so much fun with it! I think this will become a yearly habit.
Thanks to the fitnessista for the idea to get it done!
Tell me: what do you hope to accomplish in 2011? Or heck, for the sake of simplicity, what do you hope to accomplish today or tomorrow? Short-term goals are just as important as long-term goals.

I can't wait to finish my board - thanks for the inspiration!!
What great goals! This year is going to be such a great one for you! I love that you are so intentional with your son... that's amazing. More parents should be like that. Oh, and I love your inspiration board! :)
Love love LOVE it! And like you said, I recognize some of those photos too! ;) I totally agree with you on the "no weight loss goal", the "more yoga", and the "relationships" goal, and I TOTALLY want to meet you too! We should plan this.... :D I've been thinking about self-hosting my blog but like you say, the thought of it is really scary right now. Baby steps right? Have a fantastic day Stefanie!! :)
Love the inspiration board! And all the goals. I can relate to a lot of them. :)
I love the inspiration board! Wow---that looks like a great way to keep yourself focused on the way you want to live your life. I really like the way you talked about lifestyle being more important than pounds. I'm really trying to focus that way too, and it really does feel much better to focus on the habits rather than obsess about the outcomes!

I love your inspiration board! It's beautiful :)
[Also, the 4th Harry Potter was (and still is) my favorite of all the books...hopefully Adam will love it as well...despite the sad end :(]
I really love your board. It's motivating just looking at it! Coming up with my goals for the year have been tough as I mentioned. I think I've been struggling with it b/c I have an idea of what I want, but I think I'm partly afraid to put it out there and make it real because some of them would involve some VERY big changes and leaps of faith. Of the ones I do know for sure, it's running my first race and training for a TRI. I have also been really tinkering with the idea of grad school as well which would make the GRE a must for me also.
P.S. I hope this doesn't sound weird, but I think you and I think a lot alike! Lol! I think that every time I read your blog. It must be an Illinois-girl thing! ;)
Wow your board looks great! Very inspiring. Love the HP goal - its a great read.
I think I might make one! I never had before -- this looks so fun =)

You have some amazing goals for 2011!! And I love your inspiration board! Good luck with all of them! :) I will be staying tuned...
P.S. I will definitely give you updates regarding the Institute for Integrative Nutrition!
Your inspiration board is so pretty! I totally agree with all your fitness goals, especially run a race (a 5K for me) and run smarter. Harry Potter is one of my faves! That’s so great that your son is reading them. A blogger meet-up sounds awesome, too! Now, you’ve got me really pumped haha! :)
Those are really good goals! I wish you all the best in the new year!
I love it! It's funny because I have seen a bunch in the blog world and we are all so similar... I see a lot of the same pictures. Great minds think alike! You have some fabulous goals for 2011!
@Meri Thanks! I have a lot to do--but it will pay off in the end! :)
@Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] Yay! You are so welcome and I can't wait to see your finished product!
@thisitalianfamily Intentional, involved, and sometimes overprotective--that's my parental style. :) Thanks for the sweet compliment!
@eatspinrunrepeat YES! Let's plan it! Baby steps are the way to go! And if we switch to self-hosting, we should do it together! :)
@Lisa @ Thrive Style In my opinion (and experience), if you focus on the weight or the pounds then your loss won't stick. If you change your lifestyle--than you're on the path to being healthy for life! :)
@Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen Thanks girl! So far he is loving the 4th book (as well as the others!). I'm sure he'll be sad at the end after being so involved with the characters!
@Andrea I'm so glad you're motivated looking at my board! Come over and check it out anytime. ;)
I totally know what you mean about fear once you make the goals real--I'm in the same boat. Especially with the races! But ultimately, even if you don't reach all the goals you set, at least you set the bar high enough to challenge yourself! :)
P.S. That's not weird AT ALL. I've thought the same thing while reading your blog! <3
@alliegblogs Thanks! I agree, HP is the best! :)
@Jennifer So glad you found me! Now I'm heading over to check out your blog!! :):)
@Ashley Craft Thanks girl! Can't wait to hear about it!
@Sophia @ Raven Waves Thanks! I had to make it pretty so I would want to look at everyday! ;)
Yay, for a blogger meet-up! What other bloggies are in the area??!
I am working on my inspiration board, I love this idea since I am a visual person and it seems very motivating. Honestly I love all your goals and from reading so far, I think you'll do very well!
@Priyanka Can't wait to see your board! And your right--having a visual reminder of your goals is so helpful! :)
