Hey there friends! How’s your day going so far?
I woke up this morning in a great mood because I am finally getting my hair done today! Woo! My roots are out.of.control.
I waited a bit longer to make an appointment due to the fact that I had to find a new hair stylist. The girl who has been highlighting my hair for the past 2 years just moved.
Gah, so even though I’m excited for my appointment—I’m also nervous. Ah well, it’s just hair, right? Right.
Moving on.
I was feeling like something different for breakfast this morning. So, I whipped up a Luther burger. Just a nice little beef burger topped with a fried egg and bacon and sandwiched between two Krispy Kreme donuts.
Oh my gosh, yeah right! Did you believe me? Is your jaw on the floor?
The reason I introduced this 1500 calorie artery-clogging fat bomb will become clear in a second.
Who is watching the new season of the Biggest Loser? I am! I haven’t watched the first episode yet because I prefer to wait until it’s on demand. <—you know, for the whole no commercials thang! So no spoilers, please.
While I may not agree with everything I see on the show, I still think that it’s inspiring overall. With the obesity rates still on the rise, we need all the motivation and inspiration we can get! In my opinion, seeing that it is possible to lose such a huge amount of weight is one of the most important aspects of the show.
I have to imagine that having 100+ lbs. to lose is extremely daunting and may seem impossible. I mean just having 10-20 lbs. to lose is difficult enough! So in that aspect, Biggest Loser offers hope and stories of success. Which will hopefully serve as the necessary catalyst to get those watching started on the path to health.
The Luther Burger was showcased in the aforementioned article on obesity. In my completely unprofessional opinion, foods like that should be illegal. Banned. Never invented. Ever.
If you want to see more foods similar to (or worse than) the Luther Burger, check out this website. While the name is a bit callous for my liking, the idea is right. It showcases other crazy calorie bomb food combos. Like this pulled pork donut burger. Imagine how crappy you would feel after eating that! Or is that just me?
Moving on, again.
My actual pre-workout breakfast was an iced coffee + a toasted Arnold sandwich thin slathered with almond butter and sliced bananas. Much better, eh?
Well now that I’ve filled my quota for random posts of the day, I’m off to squeeze in a workout!
<3 Stefanie
Discussion: Do you watch Biggest Loser? What do you like/not like about the show?
What do you think about the Luther Burger? Am I being too harsh by saying that it should be illegal?
Just out of curiosity (and completely unrelated—because I’m random like that)—what’s your hair routine? Highlights, full-color, au naturel? I get partial highlights + lowlights in the winter months and just highlights in the summer months.

I get such a kick over these calorie charged monstrosities! Too funny... and super gross! The thing that makes me the most upset though is restaurants. They serve what appears to be healthy balanced meals but when you go home to do a little research (maybe i'm the only one crazy enough to do this?) you find that that chilis salad was 2300 calories... thats more than the krispy creme burger!!! holy cow!
I can see that if i'm not careful this could turn into a crazed nutrition rant ;) lol
my hair routine is kind of erratic, curly one day straight the next. up. down. whatever there's time for =)
xoXOxo
Jenn @ Peas & Crayons
@Jennifer Oh my gosh, I totally agree!
I used to get the veggie burger at Ruby Tuesdays. A veggie burger on a whole wheat bun, sounds like a healthy option right? The burger alone (not counting sides) was 1200 calories!! Ah, so you're not crazy I definitely research my restaurant meals--you just never know!
I had to stop myself during that post--because I could have gone on and on about nutrition, restaurant meals, false advertising...I'll stop. ;)
See that's how I feel too! I'm so glad I found you in blog land b/c seriously... sometimes I feel like the craziest nutritionist-in-training on the flipping planet =) at least we can rant on eachother's blogs! hooray!
Ughhhhh....trying not to be judgmental but I may have just thrown up in my mouth! I don't watch BL-i did a couple times but I don't believe in everything they do and say and I don't like howe its become all drama related!
My hair needs DID too!!!!! I got to get on that! I just get all over color when I get mine done!
Oh yikes that burger is not looking good! I knew you were kidding ; ) hey some peeps might like it I ugess, to each their own!
: ) xo
Eww that burger is disgusting. I am an official Biggest Loser addict. As well as the inspiration I love the drama...I know I shouldn't haha
I don't watch the biggest loser regularly, but sometimes catch an episode. I am a wellness coach, and it's difficult to talk people down from that show---they get all motivated while watching it, but then try to improve lifestyle and lose one pound in a week (instead of the BL's 7), and they get frustrated.
The essence of the show is great! But, I wish people could have a more realistic understanding of what it takes to lose weight.
The luther burger is gross, and it would be fab to ban it (along with cigarettes and soda, etc).
I don't do highlights---I just do color because I like my hair darker. However in the summer it lightens itself in the sun! If my hair was lighter, I'd probably do highlights, but I think the root issue would be too drastic if I did it now.
oh...and I definitely did a double take when you said you ate that nasty thing!

Groooosss!!! I used to watch The Biggest Loser, but don't really anymore. I do love the show though!
I watched The Biggest Loser last night, but not sure if I'll stick with it this season or not (I've only been super obsessive about watching during one season a few years ago.)
But, I had to comment to tell you that I've actually eaten something VERY similar to a Luther burger that they made at a now-defunct trailer/bar here in Austin...and you know what? It was awesome. Hate me if you will, but it was good.
http://www.thesmartkitchenblog.com/2010/07/woman-vs-food.html
I did only eat half of it because I knew I'd feel sick otherwise...but I just had to try it. Since I eat super healthy every other moment of life (generally) I figured, why not? I do think that people who can't recognize what is or isn't a healthy choice should probably not have this put in front of them though...
Nope, I don't think you're being too harsh at all! I agree, this and just about every item on the menu at the Cheesecake Factory should be illegal. It's illegal to kill someone and that's exactly what these foods are doing, so...
As far as TBL, I don't watch regularly, but I have also always found it inspiring...although I have been side-eying it a bit ever since reading this interview with a former contestant: http://www.bodylovewellness.com/2010/06/09/kai-hibbard-biggest-loser-finalist-part-1-of-3/
@Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen I just read the post you linked--and wow! That's so funny that you actually tried something like the Luther Burger! And liked it!
But I would never hate you for it! Honestly, to each their own. I was just using that as an example of foods that have contributed to the obesity epidemic! Of course, the food people choose to eat is just that: their choice.
I just think that if food of that type wasn't available, it would save a lot of people the struggle with willpower.
Like you said, you eat healthy--so if you want to try that food, then go for it!
Anyway, I hope this post didn't come off as judgmental! I've eaten more than my fair share of unhealthy foods through the years.
That burger is atrocious! While I hate it, I wouldn't go so far as making it illegal. I do believe it personal responsibility. No one could possibly eat that without knowing how bad it is for them. If they want to eat it anyway, then that is their decision.
i LOVE the biggest loser! although I dont get it over here!! We sometimes get old season re-runs but british tv is not on par with america!
Oh my gracious, seriously when I first saw you had posted that my jaw nearly hit the floor and I was like, "NO WAY!" Haha! I couldn't believe that you would seriously eat something like that. But then I can't really believe ANYONE would eat something like that. So sad. The first time I ever saw the thisiswhyyourefat website was when my boyfriend (now husband) showed me this monstrous "burger" that had like 4 pounds of fatty beef and the "buns" were two Digiornos pizzas... yeah... it was awful.
As for Biggest Loser... I'm a fan. I'm all about any form of inspiration that helps people see they aren't alone.
I am a big time BL fan! I think I would go into a fat/sugar coma after something like this. This looksawful to me!
Your breakfast however, delicious!
How do you put together your iced coffee?!!
I agree 100% that things like that should be banned. Eating contests should also be banned as well -- I get so mad when I go out places and see signs to win a tee-shirt for a ridiculous amount of over eating. Ugh!!
Can't wait to see your new hair Stefanie!!! I recently found a new stylist who at one time was my back-up for when my regular one was away, but now she is the regular!! I don't highlight my hair but I do occasionally dye it at home just for fun, because I get bored very easily (no crazy colours though!)
Gross- I feel like until it really "clicks" with people about putting good things in their body, they ignore the warning signs about repulsive fat bombs and calorie bombs. Once you are used to feeling good after eating, it is hard to imagine eating certain foods ever again though. Ugh. Then again, I've been a vegetarian my whole life so it's not a huge adjustment :)
I change my highlights/lowlights up depending on the season or how its growing in. Sometimes I just stop for several months and let it go more natural. I do very much enjoy the process of cutting/ coloring my hair though!
I can't believe that someone would sit down and eat a nasty burger like that...knowing that it contains almost the entire amount of your daily caloric intake!
Your breakfast looks delicious - especially that Iced Coffee :)...I love coffee!
The Biggest Loser is a great show! I wish I had more time to watch it. I am not crazy about Jillian because she's too loud and obnoxious...she needs to take something to calm her down, but I like Bob...he's much nicer.
@LifeasKristina I know! I hope this post didn't come off as judgmental at all!
BL is becoming sort of dramatic, but I kind of like it! Makes for a more interesting show I guess! ;)
@applenomore haha I like the drama too! Don't worry! ;)
@Lisa @ Thrive Style First of all, I love your super thoughtful comments! :)
Haha so funny that you did a double take!
And I agree that the amount of weight they lose in a week is completely unrealistic and unhealthy! But the premise is great--so if they get a little motivation from it, than that's great!
Cigarettes and soda should totally be banned!!
@cleaneatingchelsey.com I know! Imagine how you'd feel after eating that! I'd want to sleep for like a year!
@Andrea Thanks girl! :)
I did see that article a while ago and I kind of re-evaluated the show too! But I still think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages!
@Cynthia I agree that personal responsibility definitely plays a role!
@movesnmunchies Oh man! That sucks that you don't get it over there!
@thisitalianfamily hahaha I can't believe I got you!
Ughh, I saw that beef sandwich between 2 frozen pizzas a while ago! So GROSS!
@Jess @ Blonde Ponytail I know! I would be in a total fat coma!
For iced coffee: I brew a pot of flavored coffee (french vanilla or whatever I see at the store)--then I let it cool for a bit and pour it in a glass pitcher. Put it in the fridge and it's ready for morning! :)
@Jennifer @ shesafitchick Yuck! Eating contests have got to actually damage your stomach. It must be sooo stretched in order to eat that much food!
@eatspinrunrepeat Thanks girl! I loved the girl that did my hair! We talked about working out and eating--so that's right up my alley!
For dark hair, boxes work awesome! I always dye my Mom's and it turns out perfectly. For blonde hair, not so much!
@MeriI agree! Now I eat food that gives me energy and nourishes my body rather than food that makes me want to sleep for days. If I ate that burger, I would feel like crap!
I love getting my hair done! Too bad it's so expensive or I'd do it every week! :)
@Kate @ Diethood.com Mm, coffee is the best!
Imagine if that sandwich was paired with fries?! Then that would be OVER your daily caloric intake. And that's not even considering if you ordered a pop to drink...
I like Jillian's loudness! haha
I watch Biggest Loser, but I'm sad to see how big the contestents have gotten. I think it's more common for people to need to lose 50-100lbs rather than 200-300 lbs!
Although I'd love to have my butt kicked by Bob and Jillian!
@Wilde in the Kitchen I agree. Each season the contestants get bigger and bigger!
I've always wanted Bob & Jillian to kick my butt! :)
I have never been big into the biggest loser, but I can tell you that I would NEVER eat "The Luther" Burger. It looks absolutely disgusting and I would feel so sick after eating all the fat and grease.
I am 20 and I have NEVER colored my hair. I have wanted to highlight it in the past, but I was scared to death of what it might end up looking like. I would also like to get a new hair cut, but I never know what to do because I have bangs (fringe in the UK) and I cannot seem to find a look that goes well with the bangs! :)
I don't watch The Biggest Loser, but I've heard it's addicting! That Luther Burger is so gross!!! I didn't scroll down fast enough, so when I saw the pic, I was like....what is she eating?!?! Haha! My hair is natural. I've never dyed it mostly b/c it's so dark, I don't think any other color would suit me.
Sorry while the Luther Burger should be banned, this is America. The real problem with that food is that my insurance rates go up to pay for people's weight-related health problems. Lowlights in the winter and just highlights in the summer, much like you. I went much darker this winter than I've ever been and it's been a great change. On again, off again person with Biggest Loser. I don't understand how people get like that, especially with all the info we have today, but I'm a bit obsessive on the other end of the spectrum. We need a Biggest Loser for those of us that do work hard and eat right, but just need someone to kick our butts and show us how to get that one part sculpted that we can't do on our own. Or maybe we want to decrease our body fat for our age-group racing season. Where's that reality show? Seriously.
Ewww that thing looks horrific! I don't think it deserves to be called food.
